If various people are inputting data into the logs of multiple TrueBudget files, you will eventually need to merge that data into a single TrueBudget file. This article will explain how to do that.
Before we get started, we need to define a couple of terms:
-
SOURCE file – this is the file you’re importing from.
-
TARGET file – this is the file you’re importing into.
Now, follow these steps:
1) Open both your SOURCE file and TARGET file.
While not necessary, we also recommend closing any other Excel files.
2) On the TARGET file, click the ‘Import Budget’ button, which can be found on the TrueBudget ribbon tab and Menu sheet.
3) Select your source file & file type.
You will see a window with two drop-down menus. In the first, select the name of the file. (If you do not have any other Excel files open, the name of your SOURCE file should already be listed there.) In the second, select the type of file; in this case, 'TrueBudget'. Click OK.
4) Select the logs you wish to import.
You will see a new window that lists the various parts of the file that you can import. If you’re importing one or more of the logs, check the box next to the name of the log(s). Under the checkbox, you’ll see another checkbox labeled “Delete existing data”. If you want the data on that log (in your TARGET file) to be deleted, check this box. Click START.
The import should begin. It can take a few minutes, depending on the amount of data in your log and the speed of your computer.
