Because TrueBudget works within Microsoft Excel, occasionally you may experience a run-time error.
If you receive one of these errors, the first thing you should do is click 'End'.
These errors can sometimes occur, but if you then repeat the same action, they may not happen again. Repeat the action that caused the error to confirm that the error happens again.
If it does, try the following:
1) Quit Excel completely, re-open your TrueBudget file, and repeat the action that caused the error.
Quitting Excel and restarting it can sometimes solve whatever problem was occurring.
2) Restart the computer, open your TrueBudget file, and repeat the action that caused the error.
On rare occasions, especially on Mac, the computer itself may need to be restarted before the error will stop happening.
3) Make sure you are running the most recent version of TrueBudget.
The latest version is v2.1.2. If you are running a previous version, please visit our website to download the latest one. It's possible we have fixed the issue you are experiencing in the latest version. (To check what version of TrueBudget you have, click on the Menu page and look directly under the TrueBudget logo.)
If the problem does not occur in the latest version, you will then need to import your TrueBudget file into the new version you've downloaded. To learn how to do this, click here.
4) Make sure your version of Excel is up-to-date.
TrueBudget has only been tested on recent updates of Excel. See the Requirements article to see the minimum version of Excel you need to have for your particular system.
Even if you have one of the listed versions, Microsoft periodically fixes bugs in Excel, so it is best to be running the most recent version.
To update Excel, do the following:
On Mac: Click on Help > Check for Updates.*
On Windows: Click on File > Account > Update Options > Update Now
Once you have updated your Excel, open TrueBudget again to see if your issue is still occurring.
*Notes about updating on Mac:
For Excel 2011, using the above method to update may not work. If it doesn’t, you should be able to download the latest update directly from the Microsoft website.
For Excel 2016, using the above method to update may not work. If it doesn’t, you may need to first download the Microsoft AutoUpdate Tool. You should be able to download that by clicking here.
If you originally downloaded Excel from the Mac App Store and you do not have automatic update turned on, you can attempt to do an update this way:
-
Open the Mac App Store from your Dock or Finder.
-
Click Updates on the left side menu, then click Update All or the Update button next to the Excel icon.
5) Read the article explaining the Known Issues.
Click here to view the article that lists the Known Issues with TrueBudget.
6) Contact us.
