Note: to watch a video explaining how to import a budget file into TrueBudget, scroll to the bottom of this article.
If you have an existing TrueBudget file, or a budget made in Hot Budget or PointZero, you can import that file into TrueBudget. This article will explain how to do that.
Before we get started, we need to define a couple of terms:
-
SOURCE file – this is the file you’re importing from.
-
TARGET file – this is the file you’re importing into.
Now, follow these steps:
1) Open both your SOURCE file and TARGET file.
While not absolutely necessary, we also recommend closing any other Excel files.
2) On the TARGET file, click the ‘Import Budget’ button, which can be found on the TrueBudget ribbon tab and Menu sheet.
3) Select your source file & file type.
You will see a window with two drop-down menus. In the first, select the name of the file. (If you do not have any other Excel files open, the name of your SOURCE file should already be listed there.) In the second, select the type of file; TrueBudget, Hot Budget, or PointZero. (This should also already be filled in if you don’t have any other Excel files open.)
4) Select the areas of the file you wish to import.
You will see a new window that lists the various parts of the file that you can import. Select which areas of the file you wish to import, and then click START.
The import should begin. It can take a few minutes, depending on the speed of your computer.
